ACUPUNCTURE A MEDICINE OF BALANCE AND HARMONY Acupuncture is a therapeutic method of traditional Chinese medicine that also includes herbal medicine, massage techniques, dietetics and physical practices such as Qi Chong and Taï Qi Chuan.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) considers the human being as a whole, and in relation to the outside world. All levels - physical, psychological and spiritual - are examined. It is a symbolic reading of life and the human being. The acupuncturist is its translator. He will seek out the disturbed energetic and symbolic functions that prevent the patient from being in harmony with himself and the world around him. Acupuncture also reminds the body of the correct way of functioning, which it had known but then suppressed, by punctuating the point(s) concerned in places on the body where the suffering has been memorized. Acupuncture is not incompatible with allopathic medicine. It is even proposed as an adjunct to chemotherapy or as part of oncological rehabilitation, to boost immune defenses, for insomnia, depression or rheumatology.

Acupuncture is an effective treatment for patients of all ages, from infants (with specific massage techniques) to the elderly. It is also an excellent indication in women's medicine, for appropriate treatment during the various stages of the female cycle, in cases of hypofertility, infertility, during the menopause or during a difficult pregnancy.

This medicine remains valid for the most serious illnesses, even if it cannot ensure a complete cure on its own. It does, however, provide appreciable support and better tolerance of certain particularly severe treatments. In this way, it plays an important role in prevention, while ensuring the best possible energetic balance for the individual.

Diagnosis A precise diagnosis is established following a meticulous examination that includes an analysis of the history of the illness, personal and family antecedents, a classical medical examination, and an examination of the complexion, tongue and pulse.

Treatment Treatment is carried out using very fine, single-use needles. They are virtually painless to insert, and only a small quantity of needles is required. Massage may be used in certain cases, as well as moxibustion (application of heat using mugwort cigars).
