Howard Austin is a New Zealander and a nationally recognized practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine. His -practice "Basel Howard was first introduced to the healing power of plants as a beekeeper in the native forests of New Zealand. Because of his desire to learn the art of , as well as his keen interest in medicinal plants, Howard decided to pursue a career in traditional Chinese medicine (). Prior to studying traditional Chinese medicine, Howard attended Nature Care College in Sydney, where he received degrees in Swedish massage and therapeutic massage. In 1997, Howard received his diploma in traditional Chinese medicine () from the Sydney Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine in NSW, Australia. Howard's training also included an internship at the Red Cross Hospital in Hangzhou, China, where he completed advanced training in pain management, gynecology, pediatrics and internal medicine. Before Howard moved to Switzerland with his family and founded Basler, he developed and managed a successful natural treatments group practice on Sydney's Lower North Shore for more than 12 years.
